Maritime Innovation
and Technology (MINT) Fund MPA has established a S$100 million MINT Fund to support the development programmes under the Maritime Technology Cluster Development Roadmap. S$50 million from the MINT Fund would be set aside to enhance maritime R&D capabilities while the rest would be to enhance the maritime technology cluster. The MINT Fund programmes and schemes are:

Maritime Industry Attachment Programme The Maritime Industry Attachment Programme aims to immerse engineering, IT and science students from TRI to the maritime industry as well as the opportunities it offers. This is an extension of the current universities' industry attachment programmes. From the attachment, maritime R&D concepts and projects can be generated by the students. At the end of their attachment, students can submit to their tertiary institutions their suggestions for maritime R&D projects. Suggestions accepted for their Final Year Projects (FYP) or post-graduate projects will be awarded prizes, with a top prize of $500 and several second prizes of $250 each. On top of these prizes, the students' final year or post-graduate R&D projects will be funded by the MINT Fund. Companies are encouraged to take in students under this Attachment Programme as well as to participate in the FYP. Joint TRI and MPA R & D Programme The programme will be used to co-fund joint maritime-related R&D projects by TRI and MPA. MPA will participate in the projects as a R&D partner. The main requirements for the joint TRI-MPA R&D projects are that they should be relevant to the maritime industry and the main project deliverable should be technologies or innovations that have potential to be developed into commercial products, systems or services. In this respect, the TRI are encouraged to have industry partners in their R&D projects. Maritime Technology Professorships The setting up of the Maritime Technology Professorships (MTP) is provided for under the MINT Fund. The local universities involved in technological R&D are the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The universities are encouraged to source for industry's contributions toward the MTP so that a larger endowment fund can be built up through both a dollar-for-dollar matching governmental funding for the industry's contribution and also through MPA's contribution to match the industry's contributions towards the MTP. The aim of the Professorships is to encourage R&D relevant to the maritime industry. This can be achieved by various means such as:
The MPA and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) have jointly established a platform for development and test-bedding of maritime innovations called Test-bedding, Research and Innovation Development for New-Maritime Technologies (TRIDENT). This platform supports companies in Singapore as well as the TRI to undertake maritime-related research & development (R&D), innovation development, using Singapore's port and maritime facilities as test-beds for their innovations. The objective of TRIDENT is to encourage innovation development, test-bedding and commercialisation of maritime technologies by companies. TRI are also eligible for TRIDENT support in test-bedding their prototypes in the industry. The Maritime Seed Fund (MSF) is targeted for young or growing maritime companies seeking to bring technologies or innovation from concept to commercialization and to encourage established maritime technology companies, local or foreign, to embark on further R&D, set up facilities in Singapore or venture overseas. The MINT Fund will invest in the companies registered in Singapore in exchange for equity based on the 3 funding levels.
Companies must be in the maritime industry or providing products or services to the maritime industry in order to qualify. |
